THE FICTION SHED HELPS FICTION WRITERS TO FINISH THEIR MANUSCRIPT TWO WAYS:

It’s run by me - Liza Costello - a novelist and poet. John Connolly described my first novel THE ESTATE as ‘a tense, atmospheric tale of fear and isolation’. My second novel CROOKEDWOOD was called ‘an excellent psychological thriller’ (Irish Independent). I’ve also written for the Saturday Independent, The Stinging Fly, the Manchester Review, Mslexia, Crannog, Southword and The Interpreter’s House. In 2022 the Arts Council of Ireland gave me an Agility Award to work on my poems. I’ve been shortlisted for the RTE Radio I Short Story Award, the Sean O’Faolain short story competition and came joint second for the Patrick Kavanagh award for an unpublished collection of poetry. When I get the chance, I add a new article to my little substack project on writing fiction.

I’ve taught fiction writing at the Irish Writers Centre, as well as through my local library and business college. !!I’m currently developing a new writing course!!

With my non fiction hat on, I did a PhD on Dermot Healy’s writing. I’ve written for the Dictionary of Irish Biography, the OUP journal, Interdisciplinary Studies of Literature and the Environment and this piece for the Dublin Review of Books.

‘An accomplished stylist with a flair for setting and atmosphere … Liza Costello is a writer to watch.’ Irish Times
